Our specialist bacterial identification service uses metagenomic sequencing to detected bacterial DNA in clinical specimens, enabling the broad detection of various pathogens without specific targeting. This technique is especially valuable in diagnosing challenging conditions like  where the infectious cause is suspected but remains undetected by conventional methods.

The assay offered by Enfer Medical is the llumina, CovidSeq assay for patients with PCR confirmed COVID-19 infection. The amplicon-based next generation amplicon sequencing (NGS) assay leverages a modified version of the publicly available ARTIC multiplex PCR protocol to help identify novel strains of SARS-CoV-2.  The service is clinically validated for nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs with detectable SARS-CoV-2 RNA.

Discover the unique factors shaping your gut microbiome’s diversity with our microbiome sequencing test. Leveraging the power of Next-generation Sequencing, our microbiome test offers a comprehensive survey of your gut’s microbial genomes, including unculturable organisms, to provide a deeper understanding of your gut health.

Biopharmaceuticals

Ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in your biopharma products with our comprehensive sterile and non-sterile testing. Our genomic analysis detects and monitors microbial presence, guaranteeing product integrity.

Leverage our advanced genomic technologies for precise identification and typing of microorganisms. This service is essential for pathogen characterization, aiding in drug development and ensuring batch-to-batch consistency.

Optimise the safety and compliance of your biopharmaceutical manufacturing environments with our specialised environmental monitoring service. Utilising pathogen genomic analysis, we precisely track and manage microbial activity to prevent contamination risks in critical processes. This targeted approach is crucial for maintaining the stringent cleanliness and quality standards essential in biopharma production.

Some of our customers

It takes two...

While reference genomes are invaluable, they may not always provide the complete picture for a specific organism. In this study, we showcased the power of integrating both long and short-read sequencing technologies to generate de-novo reference genomes. Specifically, we applied this approach to 22 S. cerevisiae yeast strains, including 16 from the Guinness collection and 6 from historical Irish brewing. This enabled us to accurately trace the origins of the Guinness yeast back to 1903, revealing its unique genetic identity separate from other historical Irish yeasts. Our findings illustrate that combining these two sequencing methods can offer a more detailed and precise understanding of your strain of interest.

The origins of the Guinness stout yeast

The present yeast used to make Guinness stout brewed in Dublin, Ireland, can be traced back to 1903, but its origins are unknown. Using Illumina and Nanopore sequencing to generate whole-genome sequencing data the origins of the Guinness yeast were determined with a SNP-based analysis, demonstrating that the Guinness strains occupy a distinct group separate from other historical Irish brewing yeasts.

Clinical SARS-COV-2 Whole Genome Sequencing

Whole genome sequence analysis of SARS-CoV-2

Since 2021, our experienced team has been a reliable partner of the HSE in the crucial task of SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing. In collaboration with Enfer Medical, Ireland’s leading clinical diagnostic laboratory, we have streamlined the process for rapid and precise Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) of SARS-CoV-2 clinical samples. Our efficient analysis of COVID-19 sequencing data enabled effective monitoring of the pandemic, focusing on the detection of significant variants and tracking the virus’s evolution in our population. Working alongside the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, we consistently provided up-to-date genomic insights on the circulating SARS-CoV-2 strains in Ireland.
